The rain comes down, filling the streets and ditches with water. In the sky above, clouds circle a petulant moon, hiding its face. The chill air belies the summer date, heat following cold. Outside, every plant soaks up as much water as possible, growing and thriving. There is silence as the town sleeps, laid out on beds, in chairs, and on couches. Birds roost and dogs curl their tails for warmth. A single worn out truck travels along the highway, neither fast nor slow. In the distance, the mountains warm with golden light.
