There are times, especially during the winter, when I wonder about emotions. From the fall season of Halloween and Thanksgiving through New Years Day, we as a society have several holidays and celebration upon celebration to keep us focused on family, love, and upbeat attitudes. After the first of the year though, we still have two months where the land is asleep and waiting. It is during this period that my mind turns to the coming Spring.
Generally speaking, I am not adverse to the Winter. I genuinely enjoy the seasons (as it is in New Mexico) with the sporadic snow and chilly weather. Through all of this though I find myself with lowered energy levels. This seems to affect not only my physical and mental reserves but also my emotional ones as well.
I often think that some of the more primitive cultures centered a considerable amount of festivals and rites among the Winter to keep up the general well being of the community, to keep people focused on the coming rebirth and not the needed slumber.
